These pathways will show you what to expect when your child/young person is accepted to the waiting list for ADHD and/or autism assessment.

Referral form completed via MyMind and supporting reports, documents and questionnaires are submitted

The referral is taken to a multi agency triage panel

The panel will decide if the young person meets the referral criteria for assessment

You will receive an outcome letter from the panel. This may include signposting to another service for support, further discussion with school around reasonable adjustments. If the panel feel it is approprate, the young person will be placed on the waiting list for assessment.

Reworded to you you will recieve emails bi monthly about the support you can access while waiting.

When your young person gets to the top of the wait list, a link to the pre-assessment questionnaires will be emailed to you.

When the team receive both home and school pre-assessment questionnaires appointments will be allocated and sent to you by email.

A Qb appointment and a parent interview (PI) will take place. There is more information on the photo stories page on those appointments. If you do not bring the young person to the appointment and do not let the service know in advance the case will be discharged to the service and a new referral will need to be made.

The assessments will be reviewed by a multi disciplinary panel to produce a diagnostic opinion. In some cases further information or wider multi-agency discussion is needed.

If the panel can conclude the ADHD assessment, a telephone feedback appointment will be arranged to discuss the outcome and possible next steps.

If the panel are unable to conclude the ADHD assessment, a review appointment with a Consultant Psychiatrist will be sent by email.

A diagnosis letter will be sent to you following the feedback or review appointment

If the diagnosis is not made or a possible trial of medication is not wanted, the young person is discharged from the ADHD assessment pathway.

If a diagnosis is made and a possible trial of medication is wanted, the young person is opened to the ADHD medication monitoring pathway.

Young Person is discharged from the autism pathway.
- Referral received following an ADHD diagnosis.
- A confirmation letter that your young person has been placed on the ADHD pre-medication waiting list will be sent by email.
- When your young person gets to the top of the wait list, an ADHD pre-medication assessment appointment will be allocated and sent by email. This appointment may include a Qb test. If you do not bring the young person to the appointment and do not let the service know in advance the case will be discharged to the service and a new referral will need to be made.
- It may be necessary for your young person to have an electrocardiogram (ECG).
- If the ECG indicates a possible trial of ADHD medication is suitable or if an ECG was not required, medication will be started and you will be provided with the first prescription.
- ADHD clinic appointments will take place for titration of ADHD medication until at a therapeutic dose. Your GP will be asked to prescribe the medication.
- Once the ADHD medication is at a therapeutic dose your young person will be reviewed every 3 months (if 10 years old or younger) or 6 months (if over 10 years old) by primary care.
- An annual review appointment with the ADHD team will be sent by email.
- Once your young person reaches 16 years of age, transfer to the adult ADHD team will take place.
